In the opening years, he ran a 1.6 CVH engine in a Ford Fiesta XR2 in the stock hatch championship - one of the most competitive championships in the UK with over 100 registered entries and grids of up to 40 cars. Alex's class B car proved to be a top runner and finished 8th overall at the end of the season.
